Tricia Goyer learned a valuable lesson about life when she baked a cake as a little girl. Her mother put her in charge of dessert, so Tricia decided on a spice cake and went to work. She meticulously mixed the ingredients, prepared the pans, poured the batter, and set the timer. At the tender age of 10 she was brimming with pride for what she’d accomplished. But when the timer went off, tragedy struck. The cake she had hoped for was a total disaster and she was overcome with tears. Her mother asked if she read the recipe and Tricia affirmed, she did. Her mom then asked, “Did you read it right?” She thought she had but upon further review it was discovered she used baking soda instead of baking powder. Tricia, who is now an author of more than 50 books, recalls that day long ago as the time she learned the Three R’s of Cooking: Read the Recipe Right. She’s applied that important rule to other areas of life, especially whenever she picks up the Bible.[1]

The Bible is filled with wonderful recipes for eternal and abundant life that only work when we read them right.
