Cause to Pause

Today’s Bible Reading (from Biblegateway.com): Habakkuk 1-3; Revelation 15
Wednesday’s: Zephaniah 1-3; Revelation 16

The Chinese government has given new meaning to that old familiar “naughty and nice” idea. A document released in September 2016 detailed plans for monitoring citizens’ behavior with technology so that each person will receive a “social credit score.” A credit score in the U.S. monitors financial conduct, but the Chinese will be evaluated on how they interact with others. Their performance score will impact whether or not they’re eligible for government perks with business or education. The document states, “good behavior promotes a harmonious socialist society.” It’s certainly not the way we’d want it in America, but the concept helps us think about the way we treat others, especially during the holiday season.[1]

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16, NIV, Emphasis mine).
