Ben Carson overcame insurmountable odds of poverty and educational deficiencies to become a world-renowned neurosurgeon. If confirmed, he will soon be the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary. He had every opportunity to make excuses for his challenging upbringing, but his mother wouldn’t permit excuses in her household and that altered the trajectory of his life. Drawing from his experience and the tough obstacles he had to overcome, Dr. Carson has said, “It doesn’t matter if you come from the inner city. People who fail in life are people who find lots of excuses.”[1]

Successful people look for solutions, not excuses.  This maxim applies in the secular world as well as in your spiritual walk.
