Cause to Pause

Today’s Bible Reading (from Genesis 39-40; Matthew 11
Friday’s: Genesis 41-42; Matthew 12:1-23   Saturday’s: Genesis 43-45; Matthew 12:24-50
Sunday’s: Genesis 46-48; Matthew 13:1-30  Monday’s: Genesis 49-50; Matthew 13:31-58

Outside of the Bible, Jeanne Calment holds the world’s record for length of life. She died in France during 1997 at the age of 122. On October 5, 2016, new research in aging was published in the journal Nature. The team of researchers evaluated data from around the world and concluded that even with all of the medical advances we’ve had, the human life span maxes out at about 115 years. Jan Vijg, a geneticist at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, said, “It seems extremely difficult if not impossible to break through that ceiling due to the complexity of the aging process.”[1]

New technological achievements and predictions continually amaze us, but the ancient words of God remind us we have far less control of life than we might think: “…they will live no more than 120 years” (Genesis 6:3).
